Fresh spinach is slowly simmered with ground beef, onions, garlic and tomato paste. It is traditionally served with garlic yogurt sauce.

Ingredients :

  • 750 g fresh spinach
  • 150 g ground beef
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 3 tbsp rice
  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 tbsp tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 100 ml (approx. 1/2 cup) hot water

Preparation :

  • Start by washing the spinach and chopping it into bite-sized pieces.
  • Finely dice the onion and garlic.
  • In a pot, combine the ground beef, onions, garlic, and olive oil. Sauté together until the meat is browned and the onions are translucent.
  • Add the tomato paste and sauté for another minute.
  • Add the chopped spinach to the pot, pour in the tomato sauce and add paprika and salt.
  • Cover the pot and simmer on medium-low heat for about 20 minutes until the spinach is nearly cooked.
  • Add the rinsed rice and the hot water to the pot.
  • Continue to cook for about 5-10 more minutes until the rice is tender, then remove from heat.
  • Serve warm, ideally with garlic yogurt sauce.
